Does my web site work without www. prefix?
All virtual web sites hosted by GoWeb are automatically set up to include a fully functional alias for your "base" domain name at no extra cost.
This means you can omit the "www." prefix from your address and your page will still load up as normal.
For example, in addition to using www.goweb.com.au you can go to goweb.com.au and you will end up in the same place.
Why would I want to do that?
There are two main reasons that this feature is attractive. Firstly, some people leave the www part of the address out by mistake or just because they expect it to work. It is nice to have these people land in the expected place without them needing to re-type your address or give up and go somewhere else instead.
Secondly, sometimes it can look more pleasing to write a web site address without including the www prefix, for example if space is tight or you have a long domain name you're trying to fit into an advertisement, business card etc.
Conversely, short names can also look neat without the www prefix simply because they're so short. If you're lucky enough to have a 2, 3 or 4-letter top level domain (e.g. "AC.COM") this can look even shorter and sweeter without needing the www prefix to be included.
Finally, being able to drop of the "www." can make your web site address much easier to say and save you several syllables! Instead of telling your customer on the phone "visit our web site at double-u double-u double-u dot example dot com" you can simply say "visit our web site at example dot com" and save yourselves both some time and tongue-twisting.
